The Dolder Grand is nestled in the Adlisberg Forest \u2013 a location that not only attracts guests but also entails an ecological respon\u00adsi\u00adbility. The double mate\u00adri\u00adality analysis has confirmed that biodi\u00adversity and ecosystems are a material issue for Dolder Hotel AG \u2013 both in terms of our impact on the envi\u00adronment and with regard to financial risks: our business oper\u00ada\u00adtions depend on intact ecosystems \u2013 from the natural land\u00adscape that shapes the guest expe\u00adrience, through the hillside vege\u00adtation that provides erosion control, to the avail\u00adability of high-quality food and nature-based mate\u00adrials in the supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

At the same time, we make an active, positive contri\u00adbution: with around 20 hectares of green space \u2013 including around 13 hectares of our own woodland, a spacious park, exten\u00adsively greened roof areas and the garden of the Restaurant blooms \u2013 we maintain and manage biodi\u00adversity areas that contribute directly to urban biodi\u00adversity on the Z\u00fcrichberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\n \n\t \t\t \t\t\t\t\t\n\n\"\"\n\t\t\t<\/picture>\n\t <\/div>\n\n\n\n

Forest.<\/strong> The hotel borders directly on a vast forest area that provides a valuable habitat for numerous wild animals: roe deer, foxes, badgers, martens, polecats, crows, jays and tawny owls are native to this area. In close coop\u00ader\u00adation with \u201cGr\u00fcn Stadt Z\u00fcrich\u201d and the relevant game\u00adkeepers, we are committed to protecting this biodi\u00adversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\n \n\t \t\t \t\t\t\t\t\n\n\"\"\n\t\t\t<\/picture>\n\t <\/div>\n\n\n\n

Park.<\/strong> The park features a care\u00adfully curated selection of around 50 different plant species \u2013 ranging from native trees and shrubs such as hornbeam, yew and boxwood to ecolog\u00adi\u00adcally valuable species such as service\u00adberry, dogwood and snowball bush, which serve as forage for bees and food sources for birds. Flow\u00adering peren\u00adnials such as lavender, sage and agas\u00adtache complement the range of options for polli\u00adnators. The service\u00adberry and cornelian cherry exem\u00adplify the triad of ecology, cuisine and aesthetics: their fruits are harvested by our chefs and used in the kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\n \n\t \t\t \t\t\t\t\t\n\n\"\"\n\t\t\t<\/picture>\n\t <\/div>\n\n\n\n

The garden of Restaurant blooms.<\/strong> Over 40 different plant species are grown in the hotel\u2019s own garden patches \u2013 including vegetables, herbs, berries and fruit trees. The garden is managed according to ecological prin\u00adciples: mechanical weed control, the use of bene\u00adficial insects such as ladybird larvae, night-time watering to conserve water, sheep\u2019s wool pellets as a natural fertiliser, and a strict avoidance of chemical pesti\u00adcides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Green roofs.<\/strong> The roof areas around the photo\u00advoltaic system are covered with extensive vege\u00adtation comprising 21 native wild\u00adflower and sedum species. This measure restores habitat to nature and, through evap\u00ado\u00adrative cooling, simul\u00adta\u00adne\u00adously enhances the effi\u00adciency of the solar panels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Garden and land\u00adscape main\u00adte\u00adnance.<\/strong> Throughout the outdoor grounds, we rely on sustainable methods: organic products, effective microor\u00adganisms, site-appro\u00adpriate planting and mechanical rather than chemical weed control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Together with our commitment to protecting the adjacent woodland \u2013 in part\u00adnership with \u201cGr\u00fcn Stadt Z\u00fcrich\u201d and the game\u00adkeepers \u2013 these measures are a concrete expression of our holistic approach to sustain\u00adability: protecting nature, promoting biodi\u00adversity and preserving habitats for future gener\u00ada\u00adtions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\n \n\t \t\t

Bees & Friends \/ Tiny Dolder Grand<\/a>.<\/strong> As part of the \u2018Bees & Friends\u2019 campaign by Hotel\u00adlerieSuisse and Switzerland Tourism, the \u2018Tiny Dolder Grand\u2019 was created in 2025 \u2013 a miniature version of the ballroom, designed by mechanical engineer Josua Gl\u00fcnkin and situated on the edge of the forest. The initiative combines the promotion of polli\u00adnator habitats with a playful approach to raising awareness of biodi\u00adversity among guests and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n \n

\n \n Goals, ongoing and future projects and initia\u00adtives<\/span>\n \n\n<\/svg>\n<\/span>\n <\/button>\n <\/h3>\n \n \n\n

The existing prac\u00adtices \u2013 the consistent avoidance of chemical pesti\u00adcides, planting suited to the location, and the part\u00adnership with \u201cGr\u00fcn Stadt Z\u00fcrich\u201d \u2013 will be continued and, where possible, expanded. The ecological health of our surroundings is currently good but is vulnerable in the long term to climate-related changes \u2013 in particular droughts, storm damage and the spread of invasive species. Dolder Hotel AG has not yet defined quan\u00adti\u00adtative biodi\u00adversity targets for the reporting year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n \n

\n \n Location and biodi\u00adversity sensitive areas B5, \u00a733<\/span>\n \n\n<\/svg>\n<\/span>\n <\/button>\n <\/h3>\n \n \n\n

The main sites of Dolder Hotel AG are located at Kurhausstrasse 65, 8032 Zurich (The Dolder Grand) and Kurhausstrasse 20, 8032 Zurich (Dolder Waldhaus). The site is situated on the edge of the Adlisberg Forest, within the protection zone of the \u2018Dold\u00ader\u00adwiese\u2019 spring group, and is served by the Dolderbahn, a rack railway within the Zurich Transport Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The Emerald Network of the Bern Convention \u2013 the protected area instrument at European level that is author\u00adi\u00adtative for Switzerland \u2013 was used as the basis for assessing biodi\u00adversity sensi\u00adtivity. Both sites were examined within a 5-kilo\u00admetre radius for prox\u00adimity to desig\u00adnated Emerald sites. The screening revealed no Emerald sites within this radius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
