Editorial – Quality & Sustainability Team
For us, this report is more than just a document. It is a reflection of our daily work – and a commitment to what we have yet to achieve.
When we began compiling this report, we did not always grasp the full extent of the work involved: the sheer volume of data, the number of discussions, the many decisions that are almost invisible in the day-to-day yet are revealed here for the first time. It is this that fills us with pride – not because everything is perfect, but because we had the courage to be accountable: openly, honestly, and with a commitment to improvement. This is our first sustainability report of this scope, and for us, it marks an important step from mere commitment to genuine responsibility.
What drives us in our daily work is the conviction that sustainability is not a checklist to be ticked off. It is an ongoing learning process – one of progress, setbacks, and ever-new insights.
Achieving our goals is a long-term – and never-ending – process. However, we are firmly convinced that our sustainability efforts are in the interests of both current and future generations.
Stefan Aerni, Head of Quality & Sustainability
This philosophy fundamentally shapes our work. We do not rely on grand announcements, but on concrete, transparent steps. We prefer to be pragmatic and effective rather than theoretically perfect. Because ultimately, sustainability does not thrive on reports, but on the processes and people behind them.
For us, sustainability is not an abstract obligation but a question of mindset. And this mindset is not demonstrated through grand gestures, but in the everyday: in conversations with colleagues, in the small decisions that, together, make a difference.
For Luana, it is particularly important that sustainability does not remain behind closed doors:
Sustainability isn’t just important for our own processes – it’s also a powerful way to raise awareness among guests and staff about using resources more consciously. After all, those of us in the tourism industry, in particular, can make a real difference.
Luana Biller, Quality & Sustainability Manager
This is exactly what we experience every day: when a conversation in the kitchen leads to a new approach to food waste. When a housekeeping team member offers a better idea. When a guest asks questions and truly listens. It is these moments that inspire us more than any metric.
More voices from the team: Sustainable luxury – The Dolder Grand
This report documents where we stand. It presents key figures, measures, and targets. But it does not reveal everything: not the countless small decisions made in daily life, not the behind-the-scenes discussions, nor the moments when disagreement gave way to consensus.
That is precisely what sustainability is all about. It does not just happen in the report – it happens in the kitchen, in housekeeping, in procurement, in building services, and in every conversation with colleagues, guests and partners.
We would like to thank everyone who is walking this path with us – and especially Anabel Gschmeißner and Damian Wirth from the Terra Institute, who have supported us so wonderfully in producing this first sustainability report.
We look forward to continuing this journey together – step by step, openly and with both feet firmly on the ground.
