6.4 Water
Water is an ever-present resource in our hotel – from the 4,000 m² spa, through the catering and laundry facilities, to the irrigation of the extensive park grounds. The careful use of drinking water is therefore not only an ecological responsibility for Dolder Hotel AG, but also an operational necessity. Despite generally good regional water availability, we regard increasing summer drought in Switzerland as a physical climate risk. From this, we derive a focus on improving efficiency and the resilience of our water supply.
Dolder Hotel AG sources its water exclusively from the public supply network of the City of Zurich. A location screening using WRI Aqueduct 4.0 indicates that Zurich is not located in an area of high water stress (Aqueduct category: ‘Low’). Recycled or collected water is not currently used.
In the 2025 reporting year, total drinking water consumption amounted to 78,447 m³. Consumption shows a clear seasonal pattern: in the summer months (June–September), it is around 7,900–8,500 m³ per month, roughly twice as high as in the winter months (January–March: around 4,200–4,400 m³) – due to higher occupancy rates and the irrigation of outdoor areas.
Water intensity per guest stood at 624.3 litres (2025). Compared to 2020 (748 L/guest), this represents an improvement of 13%, and compared to the previous year (631.6 L/guest) an improvement of 1.15%.
Existing measures to reduce water consumption include the installation of water-saving shower heads (42% of showers), night-time irrigation of outdoor areas to minimise evaporation, the linen and towel policy with reduced change frequency for bed linen and towels (see Energy & Climate chapter), and ongoing leak prevention.
Our target is to reduce drinking water consumption per guest to 594 litres by 2026 – a reduction of around 8% compared with the 2025 reporting year. The long-term targets (horizon 2035) are currently being developed. Benchmark: EarthCheck activity level.

We manage water consumption as an operational environmental indicator through internal monitoring and continuous optimisation. The focus is on further equipping guest rooms with water-saving taps, optimising water-intensive processes in the spa and laundry, and raising awareness among our teams. Climate-related dry spells and seasonal consumption peaks are factored into operational planning as risk factors.
